FAMILIAR: PORTRAITS OF PROXIMITY
November 7, 2010 – January 9, 2011
Opening Reception Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 2pm – 4pm.
Artist Remarks at 3pm, Village Shalom Social Hall.
Familiar: Portraits of Proximity takes a closer look what it means to be familiar as a quality or state of being relative, relevant, or relational to the artists participating in the exhibition. Some narratives in Familiar include documentation of the social sphere, physical and spatial connections to subjects and distance traveled, genetic relationships and ancestry, the artist as wanderer or tourist, and the space between art object and viewer.
